Apply for a Certificate of Habitability, Certificate of Code Compliance or Trade Waste Permit
Registration of Vacant/Abandoned and Foreclosed PropertyApplicants will need to submit the information requested in this form along with the Registration Fee in order to have the Registration Application processed. Incomplete forms will not be processed and may result in a code violation if you fail to register the property. Initial Registration Fee $1000; First Renewal Fee $2000; Subsequent Renewal Fee $3000.
Please note that any mortgagee who holds a mortgage on any real properties located within the municipality shall register.
Trade Waste PermitEvery business operating within the City of Newark requires a Trade Waste permit. This permit is renewed annually. A current Trade Waste permit will be necessary in order to receive a business license. You may apply for or renew your Trade Waste permit here.

Apply for or renew your Business LicenseApply for, pay fees and/or renew your Business Licenses. The City requires business licenses for each business operating in the city limits.
What is required to begin an application?
You will not able to begin a application without the following:
- NJ Business Registration Certificate
- A Business Registration Certificate is proof of valid business registration with the New Jersey Division of Revenue. To register for a NJBRC go to Register for NJBRC
- Federal Tax Identification
- A Federal Tax Identification Number is also known as an Employer Identification Number (EIN), and is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN. You may apply for an EIN in various ways, and now you may apply online. Apply Online
If you do not have a NJ Business Registration or a Federal Tax Identification Number, please obtain those prior to attempting to file a business license application.
Garage Sale and Close Out Sale LicensesApply for and pay fees for your garage sale or a close out sale license.
The City requires that all Garage Sales and Close Out Sales be licensed by the city. A Garage Sale License is for up to 4 consecutive days. A Close Out Sale License (which includes Bankruptcy and Going out of Business Sales) is for up to 30 consecutive days.
Burglar Alarm PermitHave a Burglar Alarm at your home or business? If yes, you may apply to register your alarm and receive your Alarm Permit here.
Dog Licenses.Apply for, pay fees and/or renew your dog license here. Under Municipal Ordinances, anyone who owns a dog in the City of Newark must have a license. Each license comes with a metal tag that must be attached to the dog’s collar. You will be required to provide a copy of the rabies vaccination for your pet as well as proof if the pet has been spayed or neutered.
